Fire came out from the Lord to consume the offering in Leviticus 9 as a visible sign of His acceptance of the sacrifice and His presence among the people. It confirmed that the priests’ consecration was complete and that the worship offered was in accordance with God’s command.
Leviticus 9:24 says:
“And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.”
This divine fire served to inaugurate the priestly ministry and validate Aaron’s role as high priest. It was not the result of human effort but a supernatural act demons/”>demonstrating God’s approval.
This moment also echoed other instances in Scripture when God responded with fire to show His acceptance, such as with Elijah’s offering on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:38).
The fire symbolized God’s holiness, power, and readiness to dwell among His people under the terms of the covenant. It instilled reverence and awe, reminding Israel that God is a consuming fire who is to be approached with fear and obedience (Hebrews 12:29).
