What does the Bible say about Judgment Day?

Judgment Day, also called the Day of the Lord, is the appointed time when God will judge the living and the dead through Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:27 declares, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.”

This final judgment will occur after the millennium and the defeat of Satan. Revelation 20:11-12 describes a great white throne: “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it… and the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.”

All whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). This judgment is final, eternal, and perfectly just.

Jesus also spoke of this day. Matthew 25:31-32 says, “When the Son of Man comes in His glory… all the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.” The righteous will inherit the kingdom, but the wicked will go away into everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46).

For believers, Judgment Day is not for condemnation, but for reward. 2 Corinthians 5:10 says, “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ… to receive the things done in the body.” Romans 8:1 assures, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Judgment Day reveals God’s holiness, righteousness, and faithfulness. It will vindicate the righteous, punish the wicked, and usher in the eternal state.
