Why did God allow those unclean by a corpse to celebrate Passover later?

God allowed those who were unclean by a corpse to celebrate Passover later so that no one who desired to honor Him would be excluded from this covenant feast. Since contact with death made a person ceremonially unclean and unable to participate at the appointed time, the Lord graciously provided a second opportunity. This showed His mercy and His desire that all of His people remember His redemption.

“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If anyone of you or your posterity is unclean because of a corpse, or is far away on a journey, he may still keep the Lord’s Passover. On the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they may keep it. They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.’” (Numbers 9:10–11)

This provision emphasized that God valued obedience and remembrance of His salvation above strict timing when circumstances prevented participation. It also revealed that His law was not meant to be a burden but a blessing, making room for those who were hindered to still take part. In this, the Lord showed both His holiness and His compassion.
