What does the Bible say about the Lamb’s Book of Life?

The Lamb’s Book of Life is a heavenly record of all who belong to Jesus Christ and have eternal life through faith in Him. It is called the Lamb’s Book because it is associated with the Lamb of God… Jesus, who was slain for the sins of the world.

Philippians 4:3 mentions faithful believers:

“…whose names are in the Book of Life.”

The Book of Life is referenced several times in Revelation. It is the definitive record of who will inherit eternal life:

“And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
(Revelation 20:15)

This underscores its eternal importance. To be excluded from this book is to face final judgment. To be included is to be counted among the redeemed.

Revelation 13:8 identifies it specifically as belonging to Christ:

“All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

This book is not merely a record of profession, but of possession. Those truly born again, not just outwardly religious.

Revelation 3:5 contains a promise from Jesus:

“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”

This verse affirms both the reward of the faithful and the danger of apostasy. While God knows those who are His, Scripture speaks of names being blotted out, showing the seriousness of continued obedience and enduring faith.

Exodus 32:33 also makes this concept clear:

“And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.'”

Psalm 69:28 refers to the wicked:

“Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.”

These passages suggest that all names may begin in the Book of Life, but those who reject God or persist in rebellion are removed.

The Book of Life is not something people can write their own name into. It is written by God, and it reflects those who have trusted in the atoning work of Christ.

It is both a comfort and a warning, a reminder that salvation is found only in the Lamb.
