The Bible speaks extensively about money, not because wealth is inherently evil, but because the love of it leads to great spiritual danger. 1 Timothy 6:10 warns, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
Jesus taught in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve God and mammon.” Money becomes a master when it governs decisions, affections, and priorities.
In Proverbs 11:28, it says, “He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage.” Wealth is unstable, but trust in the Lord is firm.
While money is a tool that can be used wisely, greed is condemned. Luke 12:15 records Jesus saying, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
God calls His people to generosity and stewardship. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” Proverbs 3:9 adds, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase.”
Money reveals the heart. Jesus said in Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” The wise steward holds wealth loosely and seeks to use it for eternal purposes.
