What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

The Bible consistently describes homosexual behavior as sin. In Leviticus 18:22, God says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” This is reiterated in Leviticus 20:13, where it states that such acts are detestable and punishable under the Law of Moses.

In the New Testament, Paul addresses it clearly in Romans 1:26-27, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 lists “homosexuals” and “sodomites” among those who will not inherit the kingdom of God, but verse 11 gives hope, saying, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

This shows that while homosexual behavior is sin, the gospel offers cleansing, redemption, and transformation. God’s design for sexuality is always within heterosexual marriage as seen in the creation account and affirmed by Jesus in Matthew 19:4-6.
