What does the Bible say about feminism?

The Bible affirms the value, dignity, and purpose of women, but it does not align with modern feminism, which often seeks to erase God-given distinctions between men and women. Genesis 1:27 declares, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Both men and women bear God’s image and are equal in worth.

Women played vital roles in Scripture. Deborah judged Israel (Judges 4:4), Ruth demonstrated faithfulness, Esther delivered her people, and Mary was chosen to bear the Messiah. Galatians 3:28 says, “There is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Spiritually, men and women are equal in salvation and standing before God.

However, Scripture maintains distinct roles. 1 Corinthians 11:3 teaches that “the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” This is not about superiority, but order—just as Christ submits to the Father.

Ephesians 5:22-25 instructs wives to submit to their husbands as the Church submits to Christ, and husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the Church. This is mutual, sacrificial, and beautiful when lived out biblically.

Modern feminism often promotes rebellion against God’s design for marriage, family, and gender. True biblical womanhood is marked by strength, grace, wisdom, and submission to God’s Word.

Proverbs 31 portrays a godly woman as industrious, wise, respected, and revered. Scripture honors women when they walk in God’s purpose, not when they seek to replace or compete with men.
