Mormons, or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), are not Christian according to biblical standards. While they claim to follow Jesus Christ, their teachings about God, Christ, salvation, and Scripture differ radically from biblical doctrine.
Paul warned:
“For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached… you may well put up with it!” (2 Corinthians 11:4)
Mormonism teaches that God the Father was once a man who progressed to godhood and that humans can become gods themselves. This contradicts the Bible:
“Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me.” (Isaiah 43:10)
They teach that Jesus is the spirit brother of Lucifer, not the eternal Son of God, fully divine and uncreated. Scripture clearly declares:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
Mormonism adds to Scripture with the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. But the Bible forbids adding to God’s Word:
“Every word of God is pure… Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you.” (Proverbs 30:5–6)
Salvation in Mormonism is based on a combination of faith, baptism, temple rituals, and obedience to LDS teachings. This opposes the gospel of grace:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)
True Christianity rests on the person and finished work of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible alone. Any religion that presents a different God, a different Jesus, or a different gospel is false.
“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel… let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8)
Despite the use of Christian terminology, Mormon doctrine denies the essentials of the faith. It is not a Christian denomination but a separate religion with its own scriptures, god, and gospel.
