The Bible may not use the modern term “mental health,” but it speaks deeply to the condition of the mind, soul, and emotions. God created the inner man and cares about our peace, stability, and restoration. Isaiah 26:3 promises, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
David often poured out his anguish to the Lord in the Psalms. Psalm 42:11 says, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God.” This shows that even the godly can face emotional and mental struggle.
Philippians 4:6-7 gives the prescription for anxiety: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The mind is guarded by prayer, thankfulness, and the presence of God.
Jesus offers rest to the weary. Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” He does not turn away the broken; He restores them.
Believers are to renew their minds with the Word. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Right thinking comes from right focus—anchored in truth.
Though medicine and counseling may have their place, the root of mental peace is found in Christ alone. God’s Word brings light to the soul, and His Spirit comforts the downcast (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
