Faith is foundational to the Christian life. Hebrews 11:1 defines it as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is not blind, it is a confident trust in God’s promises, character, and Word, even when unseen.
Hebrews 11:6 declares, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Faith is what brings us into right relationship with God.
Salvation comes through faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” We are justified by faith, not by works (Romans 5:1), and we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Faith must be active and enduring. James 2:17 says, “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” True faith produces obedience, love, and perseverance. It clings to God in trial and remains steadfast in suffering.
Jesus often rebuked little faith but praised great faith. In Matthew 8:10, He marveled at the centurion and said, “I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” Faith that trusts God’s word alone, without demanding signs, honors Him deeply.
Faith grows through hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), through prayer, and through walking daily in reliance on the Lord. It is the anchor of the soul and the means by which we overcome the world (1 John 5:4).
