The peace offering symbolized fellowship and harmony between God and the worshiper. It was an expression of gratitude, devotion, and restored relationship with the Lord. Unlike the burnt offering, which was wholly consumed, the peace offering was shared, reflecting communion/”>communion with God.
Leviticus 3:1 says:
“When his offering is a sacrifice of a peace offering, if he offers it of the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord.”
The unique feature of the peace offering was the shared meal. Portions were burned on the altar for God, some given to the priests, and the rest eaten by the worshiper and his family. This meal represented joyful fellowship in God’s presence.
Leviticus 7:15 explains:
“The flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offering for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day it is offered. He shall not leave any of it until morning.”
The peace offering pointed forward to the reconciliation believers have through Christ. Romans 5:1 says:
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Through Jesus, the ultimate peace offering, we enjoy restored fellowship with God and the assurance of His favor.
