Christian Science is not Christian, despite its use of Christian terminology. It was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the 19th century and promotes doctrines that are fundamentally opposed to biblical Christianity. The movement denies core truths of the faith, including the reality of sin, the physical resurrection of Christ, and the authority of Scripture.
Jesus warned:
“Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name… and will deceive many.” (Matthew 24:4–5)
Christian Science teaches that sickness and sin are illusions, and that healing comes through correct spiritual understanding rather than through Christ’s atoning work. This contradicts the biblical record of Jesus healing real diseases and casting out actual demons.
“Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people… and He healed them.” (Matthew 4:24)
Christian Science denies the deity and bodily resurrection of Christ. Paul said:
“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” (1 Corinthians 15:14)
The Bible clearly teaches Jesus’ physical resurrection, central to the gospel:
“He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.” (Matthew 28:6)
Furthermore, Christian Science replaces the authority of Scripture with the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, particularly her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This violates God’s command:
“You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it.” (Deuteronomy 4:2)
A true Christian faith rests on the person and work of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Scriptures. Any teaching that contradicts the gospel is not of God.
“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you… let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8)
Christian Science is a deceptive system that borrows Christian language but denies biblical truth. It is not Christian in doctrine or practice.
