Can a Christian vote for a political party that supports abortion?

Abortion is the taking of innocent human life, which Scripture consistently condemns. A Christian must consider whether supporting a political party that upholds abortion is consistent with biblical principles.

Proverbs 6:16–17 lists things the Lord hates:

“These six things the Lord hates… hands that shed innocent blood.”

The unborn are among the most innocent and defenseless. Psalm 139:13–14 reveals God’s intimate involvement in the womb:

“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Supporting policies or parties that promote abortion places a believer in partnership with actions God abhors. Ephesians 5:11 warns:

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

A vote is not just a civic duty; it is a moral act. While no political party is perfect, supporting one that actively defends and expands access to abortion is a serious matter for a Christian.

James 4:17 says:

“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Voting in alignment with God’s Word means prioritizing righteousness, justice, and the defense of life. Christians must seek wisdom, not from culture or emotion, but from Scripture.

It is not about partisanship, but faithfulness. God will hold each person accountable for the choices they make, including how they vote.
