Live by the sword
Here’s what it means
A life characterized or sustained by violence and warfare.
Why the Bible says it this way
The sword stands for the person's regular means of survival and power.
An idiom is a familiar phrase whose meaning comes from the whole expression, not from reading each word by itself.
