God’s name was placed upon the people through blessing as a sign that they belonged to Him and lived under His authority, protection, and favor. To bear His name meant that Israel was identified as His covenant people, set apart from all other nations. The blessing declared that their security, peace, and prosperity flowed from being under the Lord’s name.
“So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.” (Numbers 6:27)
This act showed that the blessing was not merely a wish but a divine reality. When God’s name was invoked, it carried His presence and power. The people of Israel were reminded that they were not their own but His treasured possession. Bearing the Lord’s name meant they were accountable to Him, but it also guaranteed His faithful care and covenant promises.
