The Queen of Sheba’s visit to Solomon indicates the global recognition of God’s wisdom working through His chosen king and serves as a testimony to the glory of God revealed through faithful leadership. Her journey is recorded in 1 Kings 10:1–13 and 2 Chronicles 9:1–12.
“Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.” (1 Kings 10:1)
Her visit was not merely diplomatic curiosity; it was driven by the reputation Solomon had for divine wisdom. She brought valuable gifts and posed difficult questions, yet was overwhelmed by what she found:
“And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon… there was no more spirit in her.” (1 Kings 10:4–5)
She acknowledged that the reports she had heard did not even compare to the reality:
“Indeed not the half was told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard.” (1 Kings 10:7)
Her response included praise for the God of Israel:
“Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel!” (1 Kings 10:9)
This moment illustrates that when God’s people walk in obedience and wisdom, even the nations take notice. The Queen of Sheba became a witness to God’s greatness through Solomon’s governance.
Jesus later referenced her in Matthew 12:42:
“The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment… for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.”
Her visit thus foreshadows the global reach of the gospel and affirms that those who genuinely seek truth will recognize it. The event highlights the responsibility of God’s people to reflect His glory in how they live and lead.
