The prophet like Moses that God promised to raise up is the Lord Jesus Christ. This prophecy, given through Moses, foretold a future prophet who would speak God’s words with divine authority and would demand the obedience of the people. No other prophet in the Old Testament matched Moses in intimacy with God and in the role of mediator until Christ came.
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear.” (Deuteronomy 18:15)
Moses served as a mediator between God and Israel, receiving the law, interceding for the people, and leading them under God’s direction. Jesus fulfilled this in a greater way, not merely delivering law but fulfilling it, and reconciling man to God through His sacrifice. The New Testament confirms this fulfillment.
“For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me… Him you shall hear in all things…’” (Acts 3:22)
Jesus is the only one who perfectly fits the description: from Israel, speaking God’s exact words, and to be obeyed under penalty of judgment. His authority is final, and rejecting Him is rejecting the One who sent Him.
This prophecy shows that even in Moses’ day, God was pointing forward to Christ as the true deliverer and spokesman. Jesus is the greater Moses, bringing not only words of God but salvation itself.
