The Antichrist is a future world leader who will rise to power during the tribulation period and oppose God, deceive the nations, and demand worship. He is described in various passages under different names, including “the man of sin,” “the son of perdition,” and “the beast.”
2 Thessalonians 2:3–4 describes him this way:
“…that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God…”
He will present himself as a savior and peacemaker, but his true nature will be revealed as he sets himself up as God and demands global allegiance. Revelation 13 shows that he is empowered by Satan:
“The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.” (Revelation 13:2)
The Antichrist will perform signs and wonders to deceive, aided by the false prophet (Revelation 13:13–14). He will persecute believers, blaspheme God, and rule over a one-world government and religious system.
Daniel 7:25 gives further insight:
“He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints… and shall intend to change times and law.”
He will make a covenant with Israel for seven years but break it midway, desecrating the temple in what is called the abomination of desolation (Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15).
Jesus will destroy the Antichrist at His second coming:
“…whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.” (2 Thessalonians 2:8)
The Antichrist is not merely symbolic or a spirit of antichrist (1 John 2:18), he will be a literal person with global influence and satanic power. His rise is a key marker of the end times.
