What does the Bible say about the end of the world?

The Bible speaks clearly and often about the end of this present world, pointing to a time of judgment, the return of Christ, and the establishment of His eternal kingdom. 2 Peter 3:10 declares, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat.”

Jesus described the signs of the end in Matthew 24, including wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, and the rise of false prophets. He said in Matthew 24:14, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world… and then the end will come.”

The return of Christ will be visible and glorious. Revelation 1:7 says, “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.” At His return, there will be judgment. Revelation 20:11-15 describes the Great White Throne judgment where the dead are judged according to their works.

The righteous will enter eternal life. Revelation 21:1 speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, “for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.” There will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4).

The call for believers is to watch and be ready. Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” The end of the world is not something to fear for those in Christ, but a day of fulfillment and glory.
