What does the Bible say about party life?

The Bible warns against a lifestyle centered around partying, excess, and worldly pleasure. Galatians 5:19-21 lists “revelries and the like” among the works of the flesh, warning that “those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Party life often promotes drunkenness, immorality, and rebellion against God.

1 Peter 4:3-4 says, “For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties… In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation.” The believer is called out of that life, not back into it.

Proverbs 23:20-21 warns, “Do not mix with winebibbers, or with gluttonous eaters of meat; for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty.” Party life often leads to ruin, both spiritually and physically.

Jesus calls His followers to sobriety and watchfulness. Luke 21:34 says, “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life.” A life of endless distraction dulls spiritual alertness.

The believer is called to holiness. 2 Corinthians 6:17 says, “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.” We are not to conform to the patterns of this world, especially its celebrations of sin.

God gives joy, not as the world gives, but a joy that is pure, lasting, and rooted in righteousness. Psalm 16:11 says, “In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
