Parenting is a sacred responsibility given by God. Children are not burdens; they are blessings. Psalm 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” God entrusts parents with souls to raise in His truth.
The foundation of parenting is teaching God’s Word. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 commands, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.” Parents are the primary spiritual instructors in the home.
Discipline is an act of love, not anger. Proverbs 13:24 says, “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” Discipline corrects and protects, shaping the child’s character in righteousness.
Fathers especially are charged with spiritual leadership. Ephesians 6:4 says, “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Discipline must be balanced with encouragement and grace.
Children are called to honor their parents, and parents must live lives worthy of that honor. Colossians 3:21 warns, “Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” Parenting in the Lord requires humility, consistency, and love.
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” While not a formula, this is a principle of faithful sowing and trusting God for the fruit.
Parenting is not about control, it is about shepherding the heart, pointing children to Christ, and living out the gospel in the home.
