What does the Bible say about discrimination?

Discrimination, like racism, is a sin because it violates God’s command to love and the truth that every person is created in His image. James 2:1 commands, “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.” Whether it is based on wealth, appearance, status, or background, showing favoritism is condemned.

Leviticus 19:15 instructs, “You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.” Justice must be blind to outward factors.

God Himself is impartial. Romans 2:11 says, “For there is no partiality with God.” He judges the heart, not the face. 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, “For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Discrimination is the fruit of pride and blindness to God’s truth. Jesus ministered without prejudice, reaching out to the despised, the outcast, the poor, the Gentile, and the broken. The gospel is for all.

Colossians 3:11 says, “Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised… but Christ is all and in all.” In Christ, distinctions that divide the world are removed by His blood.

The believer is called to walk in love, humility, and justice, showing honor to all, especially those who are often overlooked by the world.
