The Great Tribulation is a prophesied period of intense suffering, judgment, and upheaval that will come upon the earth in the last days. Jesus Himself referred to it in Matthew 24:21, saying, “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.” This period will be unlike any other in history—marked by widespread persecution, global chaos, and supernatural judgments.
The tribulation is described in the book of Revelation, particularly chapters 6 through 18, where seals, trumpets, and bowls of judgment are poured out upon the earth. These judgments include war, famine, plagues, and catastrophic natural events. Revelation 6:8 says, “And power was given to them… to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.”
During this time, the Antichrist will rise to power, demanding worship and persecuting the saints. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 describes him as “the man of sin… who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God.”
Yet even in the midst of wrath, God offers mercy. A remnant of Israel will be saved (Romans 11:26), and many Gentiles will come to faith, though often through martyrdom (Revelation 7:14). The tribulation culminates in the return of Christ, who will destroy His enemies and establish His kingdom (Revelation 19:11-21).
The Great Tribulation reveals the righteous judgment of God, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the urgency of repentance before that day comes.
