The Characteristics of God: All Powerful

God’s nature and character are revealed through Scripture, giving us profound insight into who He is and how He relates to His creation. Among His many attributes, three stand out as foundational to understanding His greatness: omniscience (all-knowing), omnipotence (all-powerful), and omnipresence (present everywhere). Let’s explore these characteristics along with others that define God’s perfection.

God Is Omniscient (All-Knowing)

God’s omniscience means He knows everything—past, present, and future. Nothing is hidden from Him.

Psalm 147:5: “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”

God’s knowledge is beyond human comprehension; it is limitless and perfect.

Proverbs 15:3: “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

God sees all actions and knows all intentions of the heart.

Isaiah 46:9-10: “For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done.”

God’s foreknowledge demonstrates His authority over history.

Hebrews 4:13: “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

God knows the innermost thoughts and secrets of every person.

God Is Omnipotent (All-Powerful)

God’s omnipotence is the infinite and unchallengeable power that He possesses to accomplish His will.

Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The act of creation demonstrates God’s unmatched power.

Jeremiah 32:17: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.”

God’s power has no limitations.

Matthew 19:26: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

God’s power is not constrained by human limitations.

Revelation 19:6: “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!”

God’s omnipotence is central to His eternal rule.

God Is Omnipresent (Present Everywhere)

God’s omnipresence means that He is present in all places at all times, transcending the limits of space and time.

Psalm 139:7-10: “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.”

God’s presence is inescapable, offering both comfort and accountability.

Jeremiah 23:24: “Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him? says the Lord; Do I not fill heaven and earth? says the Lord.”

God’s presence fills all creation.

Matthew 28:20: “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Jesus’ promise confirms God’s abiding presence with His people.

God Is Eternal

God has no beginning and no end. He exists outside of time and is the source of all existence.

Psalm 90:2: “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”

God’s eternal nature establishes Him as the Creator and Sustainer of all things.

Revelation 1:8: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

God’s eternal existence assures His sovereignty over all time.

God Is Holy

God’s holiness signifies His absolute moral perfection and separation from sin.

Isaiah 6:3: “And one cried to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!'”

God’s holiness inspires worship and awe.

Leviticus 11:44: “For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy.”

God’s holiness sets the standard for human conduct.

1 John 1:5: “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”

His holiness is untainted by evil or imperfection.

God Is Just

God’s justice ensures that He always acts righteously, rewarding good and punishing evil.

Deuteronomy 32:4: “He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.”

God’s justice is inseparable from His character.

Psalm 9:7-8: “But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.”

God’s justice brings accountability to the world.

God Is Love

God’s love is the foundation of His dealings with humanity, expressed supremely through Jesus Christ.

1 John 4:8: “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

Love is central to God’s nature.

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God’s love is sacrificial and redemptive.

Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God’s love is unconditional and transformational.

God Is Immutable (Unchanging)

God’s immutability means that His character and promises never change.

Malachi 3:6: “For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.”

God’s unchanging nature ensures His faithfulness.

Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

God’s consistency provides stability in an ever-changing world.
